The Anguilla Experience: Tranquility, Luxury, & Seclusion
Anguilla is the epitome of luxurious tropical escapes! It's the ultimate getaway for anyone craving peace and luxury! What makes it truly special is its balance of seclusion and sophistication—luxury resorts and villas are nestled along pristine coastlines, while local culture and friendly hospitality remain at the heart of the experience.
Major cruise ships are not allowed on the island and there are not many major airlines that fly here either which makes this island way less touristy and more exclusive than most Caribbean islands. You won't find any international fast food chains or food stores here, only delicious local cuisine that reflects Anguilla's cultural heritage! With limited attractions and things to do, you'll find the pace of life slows down, creating that true island vibe and allowing you to fully immerse yourself in the tranquil beauty of this paradise!

Unforgettable Experiences: What to Do in Anguilla
As I mentioned before, Anguilla isn’t overflowing with tourist attractions, and that’s part of what makes this island so serene. However, there’s still plenty to do!
Water Activities
With water activities abound, you can find everything from windsurfing and sailing to snorkeling, scuba diving, deep-sea fishing, and glass-bottom boat rides. You can also take a boat tour to explore nearby cays and hidden beaches—there’s truly something for everyone!
Land Activities
When you’re ready for a break from the water, enjoy a scenic hike that leads to breathtaking views, play a round of golf surrounded by stunning vistas at the Aurora Anguilla Resort and Golf Club, or unwind with a relaxing spa treatment. For a glimpse into the island’s culture, visit the Heritage Collection Museum or join lively festivals that showcase Anguilla's rich traditions.
Unique Experiences
Anguilla is home to several salt ponds. These ponds play a crucial role in the island's salt industry and offer a unique swimming experience. The highly mineralized waters are known for their therapeutic properties, making a swim in these ponds both relaxing and rejuvenating. Some local tours even allow visitors to "pick" salt by hand, just like generations of Anguillans have done for hundreds of years!
Another must-see is the Anguilla Natural Arch, a stunning natural limestone formation located at the far western end of the island. With its vibrant yellow and red cliffs meeting the sparkling blue ocean, it’s a picturesque spot to marvel at nature's beauty and capture unforgettable photos.
Anguillan Cuisine: From Seafood Feasts to Vegan Eats
Anguilla isn’t just known for its stunning beaches—it’s also celebrated as the culinary capital of the Caribbean! Anguillian cuisine blends Caribbean flavors with a focus on fresh seafood, local produce, and island spices.
One must-try dish is the national dish of Pigeon Peas and Rice. This hearty and flavorful meal is a staple in Anguillian kitchens, made with pigeon peas, rice, and a mix of local spices. It's a perfect reflection of the island's culinary heritage and its focus on simple, yet delicious home-cooked meals.
Seafood lovers will enjoy conch, lobster, and fish, but if that’s not your thing, Anguilla is also famous for its BBQ ribs and chicken. You’ll also find Caribbean favorites like jerk-style meats and Johnny cakes. Vegan travelers won’t miss out either—many restaurants offer vegan adaptations of their dishes, incorporating fresh fruits, vegetables, and grains.
With over 100 restaurants, including 60 right on the water, there’s no shortage of delicious meals with breathtaking views. From upscale dining to casual beach shacks, you’re sure to find something you’ll love!
Getting There & Getting Around
There are not many major airlines that fly directly into Anguilla, with nonstop flights primarily departing from Miami. If you’re traveling from anywhere besides Miami, your best bet is to fly into St. Maarten and take a short ferry ride to Anguilla. Ferries are also available from Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Once you're in Anguilla, getting around is easy! While there isn’t a public transportation system, taxis and rental cars are readily available. Consider renting a Moke for a unique experience! Just keep in mind they drive on the left side of the road here, and you’ll need to obtain a temporary driver’s license through rental agencies.
